Opioid and Drug Epidemic and How it Affects the Workplace
CLEVELAND, TN How do you get a job when you’re recovering from active addiction? Simple: you don’t. Although the U.S. unemployment rate is at a 17-year low and at 3% in Bradley County, TN. “Untreated substance use disorder has taken way to many people of working-age out of the job market,” Lisa Pickel, director of existing industry programs for Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, stated. “The opioid epidemic, fueled by an increase in painkiller prescriptions, is hurting both individuals with substance abuse and potential employers.”  The Safety Council’s, August 14 workshop topic will focus on, “the Opioid and Drug Epidemic and How it Affects the Workplace” featuring a presentation from The Bridge Executive Director, Reba Terry and Board Chairman, Scott Elam. The workshop luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and to be held at the Chamber office located at the Village Green.
 
The Bridge is an organization driven by coming to an understanding of how devastating opioid issues are to Cleveland/Bradley County and its families and the impact opioids are having on all aspects of our community.  “The workshop will also provide information relevant to drugs in the workplace and how it impacts the economy both now and for the future,” explained Pickel.
