How do you approach difficult conversations when you don’t like conflict? Instead of avoiding difficult conversations, find the courage to start confronting people in a constructive way. The Women’s Council quarterly programming for 2019 will center around the theme of “Critical Conversations. . .”  The first quarter luncheon, held on Monday, February 25, at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, will feature Dr. Rob Coombs speaking on Conflict Resolution.

As a retired professor and writer, Dr. Coombs is committed to strengthening families. He welcomes opportunities to lead seminars and retreats for churches, schools, and businesses on a variety of family issues such as stress management, family systems, conflict resolution, spiritual enrichment, holistic health, and marriage enhancement.

Dr. Coombs holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carson-Newman College, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  He has authored six books that seek to enhance the spiritual development of children and adolescents, plus build productive family living.  For twenty years, Dr. Coombs served as a Professor of Psychology for Southern Adventist University.  He also writes a weekly column appearing in the Sunday edition of the Cleveland Daily Banner and is currently writing a book which focuses on why individuals lose the joy for living.

Dr. Coombs and his wife, Janet H. Coombs, M.D., reside in McDonald, TN.  They have two adult children and three grandchildren. Both Dr. Coombs enjoy travel, hiking, and good food.  In particular, Rob enjoys horseback riding, model trains, reading, and talking with individuals about life dreams.
